Salhoutuonuo Kruse (born 15 December 1966) is an Indian politician and community leader from Nagaland who currently serves as the Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture in the Government of Nagaland. In the 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election she was elected from the Western Angami constituency, becoming one of the first women to enter the state assembly since Nagaland’s formation in 1963. Shortly after her election she was appointed to the state cabinet, making her the first woman to hold a ministerial rank in Nagaland’s government. Before entering electoral politics, she spent many years working with community organizations and women’s groups in the region.

1. Early Life and Education
Salhoutuonuo Kruse was born in Kiruphema village in Kohima district and belongs to the Angami Naga community. She grew up in a family closely connected to local community life and traditional institutions.She completed her schooling at Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School in Kohima. She later pursued higher education at Kohima College under North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree.Early in her professional life she became involved in education and community development activities, including serving as the proprietor of North Town Higher Secondary School in Chümoukedima.2. Before entering formal politics, Kruse spent more than two decades working with civil society organizations and community groups in Nagaland.She served as President of the Angamimiapfü Mechü Krotho, now known as the Angami Women Organization (AWO), between 2011 and 2014. During this time she was involved in programs related to women’s welfare, community development, and local governance.Kruse also served as a member of the advisory board of the Angami Public Organization (APO), an influential tribal body representing the Angami community.Her work focused particularly on empowering rural women through self-help groups and promoting community participation in development initiatives.3.
