Kaam Ase is a job-and-worker platform built specifically for Nagaland. It connects workers seeking employment with households, contractors, businesses and other employers through a single platform covering all 17 districts of the State. The service is available on the web at kaamase.com and through free Android and iPhone applications.

Aloto Naga, the journalist and digital media entrepreneur behind Nagaland Me, is the founder of Kaam Ase, which was developed as a locally focused employment platform for Nagaland.

The name “Kaam Ase” is Nagamese for “There Is Work”. The platform is designed around a simple principle: workers should be able to register, look for work and be discovered by employers without paying a listing fee, a commission on wages or a recurring charge simply to keep their profile active.

Purpose and Local Focus

Kaam Ase is designed around the way employment and skilled work are commonly organised across Nagaland, where hiring often takes place through personal recommendations, local contacts and word of mouth.

The platform provides a structured digital alternative for situations in which a worker may not already have the right network of contacts, or an employer may not know whom to approach for a particular trade. It is organised around Nagaland’s districts, towns and local workforce rather than being primarily designed for office-based recruitment in larger cities.

The platform supports both short-term and skilled work, including day labour, trade work, business staffing and other employment requirements.

Who Kaam Ase Is For

Workers

Kaam Ase supports day labourers and skilled tradespeople across more than 100 trade categories. Categories include traditional and commonly requested work such as masonry, carpentry, electrical work, driving, cooking and helper positions, as well as newer categories such as solar and inverter repair, CCTV and networking, warehouse work and loading jobs.

Worker Teams

The platform also recognises that many jobs are performed by teams rather than by individuals. Workers can list a team, identify a team leader and specify the number of people working with the team. This allows employers who require several workers for a project to find a group through a single listing.

Employers

Employers can include households looking for a worker for a day, contractors and builders hiring for projects, shops requiring additional staff, offices and businesses looking for workers, and other individuals or organisations with employment requirements.

People Who Work and Hire

Kaam Ase also supports users who may be both workers and employers. A person who works as a mason, carpenter or another trade may also hire helpers or subcontractors. Instead of requiring a separate account, the platform allows a worker to request hiring access on an existing account so that their existing profile, ratings and vouches remain connected to the same identity.

How Kaam Ase Works

Worker Registration

Workers can access Kaam Ase through the website or mobile application and create an account using an email address and password, Google sign-in or Apple sign-in on iPhone. Accounts created through different sign-in methods can subsequently be connected.

A worker selects English, Hindi or Nagamese, then creates a profile containing information such as name, district, town, trade, phone number and photograph. Workers can also add a person who knows them locally and can provide a vouch, such as a colony council member, Gaon Bura, church elder, student union officer or previous employer.

Email confirmation is supported, while phone-based confirmation is also available when email confirmation is not practical.

Employer Registration and Job Posting

Employers can register for free and post jobs by specifying the trade required, district, town, number of workers needed and rate of payment. Employers can also attach photographs of the worksite.

An employer’s first job is reviewed by a person at Kaam Ase before being published. Following the first approved posting, subsequent jobs can go live directly unless a particular post triggers a reason for additional human review.

Employers can also use the worker directory instead of posting a job, allowing them to browse workers by trade and district and request the phone number of a worker they wish to contact.

Worker Discovery and Fair Listing

A central feature of Kaam Ase is the separation of worker visibility from payment.

Registering, browsing jobs and being found by employers are free for workers. The platform does not charge workers a listing fee, does not take a commission from their wages and does not require payment to keep a worker profile active.

Queue-Based Worker Listings

Worker listings are organised as a queue rather than permanently placing paid or newly registered accounts at the top. A worker who has waited longest to be seen on the first page is shown first, while a newly registered worker is shown on the day they join.

The system is designed so that workers do not remain permanently at the bottom of a directory simply because they have not paid for visibility.

Job Alerts

Kaam Ase provides one job alert per day based on the worker’s existing trade and district information. Workers therefore do not have to repeatedly configure searches for ordinary matching jobs.

A worker who disables general job alerts can still receive notifications specifically related to their account, such as a request involving their phone number.

Profile and Job Views

Profiles and jobs display visibility information, including how many times they have been seen in listings and how many times they have been opened.

This gives workers and employers an indication of how much attention their profile or job is receiving before a direct call or hiring decision takes place.

Who Viewed Your Profile

Signed-in users can see which members have opened their profile during the previous seven days. The Rich Manu plan extends this history to one year.

Kaam Ase also provides view milestones. Notifications are generated when a profile or job reaches milestones including 10, 50, 100, 160, 200 and 300 views, with further milestones thereafter.

Saved Listings and Work History

Users can privately save worker profiles and jobs for later reference.

The platform also maintains an automatic record of people with whom a user has actually worked through confirmed hires. This provides a practical history of previous working relationships and allows users to return to people they have hired before.

Phone Number Privacy

Phone numbers are treated as protected information on Kaam Ase and are not displayed directly on public worker listings.

An employer who wants to contact a worker must request the number through the platform. Phone-number lookups are limited per account and recorded, and the worker is informed when somebody looks up their number. This creates a record of access rather than allowing contact details to be collected anonymously in bulk.

“Ask Me First”

Workers can choose an additional layer of control by changing their phone-number setting to “ask me first”.

With this setting enabled, the worker’s number remains hidden until the worker has seen information about the person requesting it, including their name, district and whether they have hired through Kaam Ase before, and personally approves the request.

A worker can decline a request without charge.

Employer Features

Free Job Posting

Employers can register and post jobs without a posting fee.

An ordinary job remains active for three weeks. A job marked urgent remains active for three days, and a free account can have one urgent job running at a time.

Minimum Wage Protection

Kaam Ase prevents job advertisements offering less than Nagaland’s legal minimum wage for unskilled work from being posted.

The platform uses the unskilled rate as a minimum threshold rather than attempting to set the market price for skilled trades.

Job Photographs

Employers can add photographs to job postings, including images of a worksite, building or shop. The photographs provide additional context about the nature and location of the work and can help workers assess a job before making contact.

Employer Information

Worker profiles provide information intended to help employers assess potential workers, including trade, district, photograph, vouches, feedback from previous employers, the number of people who have hired the worker through Kaam Ase, registration history and whether Kaam Ase has spoken with the person.

Employers are also presented through a separate hiring directory so that workers can browse employers rather than relying only on individual job advertisements.

Search Visibility

Kaam Ase provides Google with information about new jobs when they are posted so that job opportunities can become searchable outside the platform as well.

Past Jobs Archive

Closed jobs are retained in a past-jobs archive rather than being permanently deleted. This preserves a historical record of previously posted employment opportunities.

Trust and Reputation

Kaam Ase uses several mechanisms to provide information about the people using the platform. These include structured ratings, work history, local vouches and the manually assigned “We have spoken to them” status.

Structured Ratings

Instead of relying on conventional star ratings, Kaam Ase uses practical yes-or-no questions related to the actual working relationship.

Workers can be asked:

  • Were you paid the amount that was agreed?
  • Were you paid when you were supposed to be paid?
  • Was the work what was described?
  • Were you treated properly?
  • Would you work for the employer again?

Employers can be asked:

  • Did the worker turn up on the agreed day?
  • Was the worker on time?
  • Was the work completed properly?
  • Did the worker follow the agreed rate?
  • Would you hire the worker again?

The system contains safeguards intended to make ratings representative of genuine working relationships. Only people who actually worked together can rate each other, ratings are hidden until both parties have rated or 14 days have passed, and an overall rating is not shown until an account has received at least three ratings.

Employer Transparency

An employer profile can show what workers have said about that employer, the number of people providing feedback, the number of workers hired through Kaam Ase, registration history and, where applicable, a GST number.

New accounts are identified as new rather than being presented as established accounts.

Local Vouching

Kaam Ase incorporates community-based references through its vouch system.

A worker can identify someone local who knows them and is willing to vouch for their identity or reputation. The platform specifically supports community references such as colony council members, Gaon Buras, church elders, student union officers and previous employers.

“We Have Spoken to Them”

Kaam Ase includes a manually assigned status called “We have spoken to them”.

Unlike a conventional paid verification badge, the status itself cannot simply be purchased. A person who subscribes to the Rich Manu plan may enter the queue for a phone call, but the status is only assigned after a member of the Kaam Ase team has actually spoken with that person.

The wording is deliberately different from a generic “Verified” label. The status records that Kaam Ase has spoken with the particular person rather than implying a broader guarantee about every aspect of their identity or conduct.

The status is also linked to the identity information checked during the call. If the person’s name, photograph or phone number changes, the status is automatically removed until Kaam Ase speaks with them again. The user is warned about this before making the change, while other account information and plan access remain unaffected.

Safety and Abuse Prevention

Human Review of Initial Employer Jobs

Every employer’s first job is reviewed by a person before publication. Posts that contain warning signs can also be held for human review later.

This approach is intended to help identify risks such as fraudulent recruitment, advance-fee scams, trafficking, bonded labour or misleading employment advertisements while allowing ordinary jobs to be published without unnecessary delays.

Reports and Grievances

Users can report workers, employers, jobs or other problems without being signed in.

Each report receives a reference number, and reports are handled privately. A complaint is not displayed publicly on a person’s profile or otherwise exposed to the person being reported.

Emergency Contacts

The report form places the police and emergency number 112, along with the women’s helpline 181, at the top so that urgent situations can be directed to emergency support before the reporting process itself.

Photo Privacy

Photographs taken by modern phones can contain embedded location information. Kaam Ase removes this location data from uploaded photographs to prevent the original GPS information from being exposed through profile images.

Device and Account Security

Users can see which phones are signed in to their account and can sign out of all devices at once. This provides a recovery mechanism when a phone is lost or an account may have remained signed in on another device.

Language Support

Kaam Ase is available in English, Hindi and Nagamese across its website, mobile application, emails and notifications.

The selected language can be changed at any time from the website or app.

The notification system is designed around each user’s selected language. For example, when an employer using English looks up a worker who has selected Nagamese, the worker’s notification is delivered in Nagamese. User-written material, such as job descriptions, remains in the language in which it was originally entered.

Personal Information and Data Rights

Kaam Ase handles personal information associated with employment and identity, including names, photographs, villages, telephone numbers and work histories.

The platform treats its responsibilities under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act as part of its obligations to registered users. Users can request a copy of the information held about them and can delete their own account from their profile page.

The platform also states that accounts and profiles are not silently or automatically deleted simply because a worker has been inactive for a period of time.

A Human-Assisted Digital Platform

Kaam Ase is designed to remain accessible to workers who may not regularly use smartphones, email or online services.

  • Field agents can register workers in person at labour points and other locations where workers already gather to look for employment.
  • Account confirmation can also be completed by phone when email confirmation is unsuccessful.
  • The “We have spoken to them” status and paid promotional services begin with human contact rather than being activated solely through an automated payment process.

Pricing and Business Model

Kaam Ase follows a model in which its core employment functions remain free for workers and ordinary job posting remains free for employers.

Workers

Workers can register, browse jobs and be found by employers without paying a listing fee, a wage commission or a fee to keep their profile active.

Employers

Employers can register and post jobs without a posting fee.

Rich Manu

The Rich Manu plan provides additional features for users who want expanded functionality.

Features described for the plan include unlimited urgent posts, additional photographs on each job, one year of “who looked at you” history rather than seven days, and a place in the queue for the “We have spoken to them” phone call.

The plan does not purchase a higher position in the ordinary worker directory and does not directly purchase the “We have spoken to them” status.

Promoted Listings

Employers can promote jobs and workers can promote profiles for a defined period.

Promoted listings do not reorder the normal directory. They appear separately as an “Ad” above the ordinary list, while the underlying list retains the normal queue order.

When multiple promotions are active, they rotate through the promotional position rather than permanently occupying it. Promotional arrangements are handled through a human process, including contact from Kaam Ase and payment through Google Pay, and the promotion ends automatically on its specified end date.

Designed for Mobile Connectivity

Kaam Ase is designed primarily around phone usage, including environments where mobile connectivity may be inconsistent.

The platform has been optimised to reduce response times, with recent development work roughly halving the time required for the application to receive responses.

The website and mobile application operate as one connected platform. An account, worker profile and associated information remain available across both web and mobile access.
